100AL Gen 2 Trombone Mouthpiece - Large Shank – Acrylic (07-2020)

5 star review

Title: The Wedge Experience

I was really overwhelmed with my new wedge mouthpiece. I adjusted really fast to it (1 day). I love the fact that the acrylic mouthpiece is very light, It was easy for me to reach the sharp notes, it is easy on the lips giving me better endurance. I play a Bach TB400B with F attachment and It goes perfect with my new Wedge(100AL 2 Gen). I would certainly encourage all trombone and trumpet players to give the wedge a try...You"ll love the comfort while playing your instrument. -Nicolas B

Tone Modifier for Large/Remington Shank Trombone and Euphonium Mouthpiece (07-2020)

5 star review

Title: Tone modifier for 114D mouthpiece

I was happy with the silver-plated 114D Wedge bass trombone mouthpiece I had purchased previously, but was curious to see whether the tone modifier might provide even further improvement. Because of Wedge's risk-free trial policy, I purchased the tone modifier. To my pleasant surprise, the difference was really quite noticeable, and very positive. My experience with mouthpieces in general is that a heavier shank facilitates the type of sound I want, and the tone modifier provides exactly that effect. It is extremely easy to apply and remove, using the small key that Wedge provides with it. I would definitely recommend giving the tone modifier a try. -Marty F

Title: Recovering from Dental Work

I am SO glad I invested in a wedge mouthpiece. I'm a professional trumpet player and middle school band teacher. I had my teeth straightened a year ago and have been struggling to rebuild my embochure. The wedge made it easier to play with reduced pressure and forced me to play with tighter corner. Plus, the endurance and tone! Love my wedge!!! -Chris T

Title: reflections after 1 month trial

My overall experience with the wedge 66MV has been positive. Having played traditional mouthpieces for over 40 years, going to the Wedge was a challenge at first. I did notice improved range, flexibility and intonation almost immediately, however it took several weeks before I could get a sense of focus - the feeling that I could lock in the center of a note. It also took a few weeks to for the sound to develop. It was rather airy at first, with air escaping the corners. However, that got better daily and although the 66MV is a bit smaller than what I was playing on, the sound is darker, smoother and I like it. I would like to try some different sizes before my final decision. -Karl M

Title: Acrylic top 65MV

Immediately comfortable with marked improvements in flexibility and range. The MV cup was my choice and perhaps it's too shallow, more used to deeper cups. Dr Dave recommend the MDV cup. I may swap but will persist with the MV a little while longer. Can't fault it. -Rowland C

Title: Wedge mouthpiece for jazz trombone

Hi, I have ordered and received an 100AL Gen 2 trombone mouthpiece which I use on my jazz trombone. I works well as promised. stable tone, well high and low register, good tongue control. The edge at the inner rim felt sharp in the beginning. I haven't had the chance to play it in a band and so cannot evaluate sound, section blending and projection. For lead I will maybe try a 100C model later. -Mario C

Title: The New Range

On several levels the Wedge is delivering renewed pleasure in practicing and playing the Bass Trombone. Opportunities to "get lower" with ease, broaden the quality of the sound and deliver a stronger "bottom-end" to our Jazz Band Ensemble are happening whilst giving a renewal as a T-Bone player since the early seventies.....with a couple of decades of missed practicing under my belt. Unique in the T Bone section the Bass T just resonates so firmly whilst blending easily as the mouthpiece provides a lot of flexibility to "shape" the music on demand..... Highly recommend it for all levels , especially those of us with lots of tunes in our head and less air in our lungs....it breathes very easy. Thank you Wedgers!! -Michael P

Title: More resonance in the sound’s core

I had put down my trumpet for 25 years or so, but have picked it back up in retirement. My trumpet teacher has said that he hears a better resonance in the sound core, that it ‘rings’. He’s noticed that there was an upgrade in my tone quality and I seemed more natural and my playing seemed easier. As for myself, I was hoping for a magical boost in my endurance and range. I am increasing in both, but I don’t know if that is more because of the mouthpiece or the practice I am doing and the instruction I’m receiving. Regardless, I plan on continuing with the wedge and will probably try additional sizes. -Edward B

Title: First time Wedge - 67D cornet

Simply fantastic piece of kit. Delivered promptly to the UK despite lockdown. I received advice on which MP to choose from Dr. Dave, who knew my requirements and concerns exactly, taking into account my current playing skill level and what sound quality I was after. An expensive MP choice for an amateur but I'm glad I did. I will definitely consider another Wedge as I might look at the slightly smaller size in time but at the moment the 67D does everything I need it to. Beautiful, smooth, full sound and no compromise in my overall playing range. -Daniel P

Title: Great mouthpiece

My overall experience wth the purchase of this mouthpiece was great! The team at Wedge have always been in touch with me with updates about the status of my order. When I have received my mouthpiece I have tried it immediately: I have noticed straight away a clearer articulation and richer sound, also it was suddenly easier for me to play soft. It felt a little unfamiliar for a couple of days but then it got even better: I have acquired way more endurance and richer sound as well as clean articulation in single, double and triple tonguing. This is a fantastic medium sized mouthpiece which is very versatile and could either serve for classical or jazz Well done Dave Harrison & the team at Wedge. - RAFFAELE B

Title: Finalmente è arrivato

63ES One Piece Trumpet Mouthpiece (07-2020)

5 star review

Title: 77 years old and still blowing!

I've been playing trumpet for 68 years and played every style known to man! Except for the Covid-19 pandemic, I still play in a big jazz band, a community concert band, and a church orchestra. I stay competitive, practice every day, and more than hold my own against far younger and very talented trumpeters. However, it ain't easy! A friend of mine has bought a Wedge and tells me it has increased his endurance without compromising his range or his tone. I have always been of the mind that you play one mouthpiece for all your needs, but as my range began to suffer I added a second mouthpiece designed solely for the high range. And it has worked for that purpose, but my sound became thin and tinny and predictably my low tones suffered. I was embarrassed to have two mouthpieces at the ready depending if I have high notes (C, D, and E) to play, and my chosen mouthpiece for notes and passages that were lower. So, I ordered the Wedge...specifically the 63ES one-piece mouthpiece. Believe me, it is unique! It takes some work but is well worth it. My high range is back to big, fat and sassy! My tone is warm and round and, well, beautiful! It slots very well and I glide smoothly between notes and intervals are accurate and spot-on. The Wedge feels good on the lips and is a pleasure to play. My endurance? Let me just say that after my lip is shot...I still have what it takes for a considerable while longer. I love it! The only problem is, what to do with the other 27 mouthpieces I've accumulated over the years? I only need this ONE! -Bruce S

Title: The Wonderful Wedge Edge

I find myself using both my original Getzen 5C and the new Wedge for my daily practice sessions. I do my warm up with the 5C and play until my 75 year old lips get floppy and then I switch to the Edge. This cool (temperature) mouthpiece gives me a second chance and I find myself playing another session which is usually longer than the first before my lips give out again. The higher notes are always more readily available with the Wedge. I am very happy with my new Edge mouthpiece. This 65MV works so well that it would be interesting to try other Wedge mouthpieces considering the age of my lips. I am having a hard time getting back to the lip endurance that I had 50 years ago. This is my 2nd Wedge mouthpiece. Really like the results with the 66mv but I also have occasion to need a brighter sound. The 66m fills that bill. I’m glad I found this system. The rim contour keeps my embouchure honest. By that I mean the corners are tighter, and the pressure in the center is reduced allowing better aperture response / control. Title: 67MDV one piece: Great product. A must-try

Definitely improved flexibility and yet the slotting seems easier. I've been working a lot on interval slurs and have went from about an octave to a P14 pretty smoothly. Range as a talking point increased about a minor 3rd. I used to have a wedge to my teeth but after an injury in the army I had my top 4 teeth pulled and dental implants to replace them. It's been a strange road learning to play the trumpet all over again but a wedge was a good investment. I noticed an immediate improvement in endurance from first session. I still play some on my Bach 1 1/2C for certain styles but my 67MDV is my main go-to choice. I'm currently going to be looking into the ES and LV wedge for big band and combo playing. -Shane W

Title: Good horn, great customer service

TL;DR: Great horn for the money. Minor workmanship issues. Dr. Dave and Daniel took care of me. Wanted a fluegel, decided to take a shot on this one before stumping up 2-3x for a European model. Had the option to return of course, but it's a keeper. Tone is pleasant (subjective opinion) and substantially warmer (not an opinion) than a yellow-brass fluegel. Responsiveness to attack is still fine. 3rd valve sliding tuner works well. Slotting somewhat inconsistent but half of that is my marginal ability and the other half is that fluegels are always slightly tricky. Valves pretty smooth and should get better as I break them in further. Came with two leadpipes to suit any mouthpiece you already have. Included mouthpiece isn't so good (looks like a Bach copy) but maybe there's a website somewhere that sells standalone comfortable mouthpieces. It's a long shot, but there migh--oh. (I'll be ordering soon.) The workmanship is a little spotty. The lacquering is imperfect (don't care). There's a nick at the foot of the bell. (Doesn't matter.) More troubling, one of the waterkeys just spontaneously fell apart. I never recovered the spring, but, Covid be damned, Dr. Dave and Daniel rushed me another, no charge. I am not anticipating further issues but if I have them I'm confident they'll be resolved. If money is no object, you may well choose to spend more on a customised fluegel. You might get an instrument you like better, you might not. You won't get better customer service. -Shawn

Title: The Wedge and this 84 year old player

I have been using the Wedge mouthpieces exclusively well into 2 years now. Primarily I use a 65MD but for long gigs with difficult material I often switch to a 64MD if my lips are getting tired. I am 84 years old, a comeback player since 2016 and struggled with a variety of mouthpiece brands and sizes but endurance and range remained a problem. Then a friend recommended the Wedge and everything changed. First of all, it was the most comfortable mp I have ever played. There was an immediate change in my endurance ( from a tough 60 minutes to a much easier 90 minutes ). Everything just started to work better. I have played some of my old mps now and then but they just don't measure up to the Wedge. And Dr. Dave is a great guy to work with. Highly recommended. -George B

Title: Gen 2 101G Trombone Mouthpiece

Overall, I highly recommend everyone tries out the 101G and/or any other Wedge mouthpiece that fits them best. Before receiving this mouthpiece, I played on a Bach Artisan 5GS (25.5 mm cup diameter, same as Bach 5G/5GS). The 5GS tired me out too much, so I wanted to get a mouthpiece that didn’t do so without sacrificing the smaller cup diameter. The 101G accomplished this in a very effective manner. The only concern I had is that I didn’t notice any increase in range, but this issue isn’t enough to warrant a 4 star rating because my high range facilitation was easier. Overall, here’s what I observed when testing the 101G when compared to the Artisan 5GS: - more comfort - better high range execution, but not increase in range - warmer/deeper tone with a bigger sound core, but not projecting as much (as expected with the deeper cup and oval shape) - initially struggled adapting to the rim, but got used to it after 3ish days - the oval shaped rim felt “smaller” to me than the 5GS did, and playing everything below low Bb felt unorthodox for me despite a fuller, more powerful sound on each of those notes. - this might just be me, but the rim itself felt like it locked my embouchure in place more than the 5GS. I personally didn’t like this but it was a minuscule problem. Please keep in mind that I do have an abnormal embouchure, so one with a more “normal” embouchure might not experience all of the things I did. Once again, I would highly advise everyone to try a Wedge! -Grant H

Title: 63 ES Review

I am a 67 year old trumpet novice. No matter how much - or little - I've worked at it, getting to a high C and sustaining the note has been a huge challenge. I bought the 63ES based on nothing more than desperation. I'd tried many other mouthpieces including plastic. This mouthpiece has gotten me re-invigorated to keep pushing! My range and technique have improved and once I achieved a high C I found that I could sustain the note far longer than I had imagined. This mouthpiece somehow retards fatigue and my sound has improved. As with many things in life, a little encouragement can go a long ways. Title: 665 MDV Trumpet Mouthpiece - a winner

Dave, I have now been playing on the Wedge 665 MDV One Piece Trumpet Mouthpiece for one month. Truly, it's embouchure comfort is unmatched. I can play/practice for multiple hours one day without getting up the next day with sore chops. In addition, it is a great hybrid between my Bach 3C and 1.5C. A nice upper register, with the resonance of the larger 1.5C Bach. Your advice on which mouthpiece to choose was right on target. Soon I will be contacting you with your suggestion about which mouthpiece to use for strictly lead work. You are a fine mouthpiece maker. Thank you. Ron L, Dallas, TX.

17.5M French Horn Screw Rim (06-2020)

Title: Amazing Rim, and Works Well with Braces!

I’ve been playing for several years now, and got braces almost 2 years ago. I’ve had a lot of embouchure problems with the braces. (I only have braces on the top, not the bottom yet.) They have caused an air pocket to form that relies on extra muscle tension to keep my lip in place, changing my tone and drastically reducing my stamina. This rim doesn’t completely fix it, but it is so much easier to feel the partials and my stamina has improved by hours! Overall, my tone, stamina, and the feel of playing has improved a ton. I am more accurate with the notes and have more control. I love with the wedge rim now! -Ethan S

Title: OK.....this is a serious piece of equipment!

I'm new to the Wedge Mouthpiece. I ordered the stock one piece Findley 66MV and much to my surprise the rim design didn't feel awkward or even all that foreign. I found the sound to be full and warm with lots of color. Whether playing Concone, Top Tones (W. Smith) or working out Jazz patterns, I found multiple articulations (single, double, triple, doodle) spoke nicely. The high register was actually quite easy.....no, this isn't a trick mp for high notes, it's a real, seriously designed piece of equipment. I'm excited to be moving towards the Wedge Mouthpieces. Oh yeah...I just ordered 2 more. Life is good. -Ray V

It needed a bit of practice to really get the feel of this mouthpiece, especialy for the lower notes. But the efforts (not that much, in reality) were worth it. High notes are clear, the middle ones as well, and the lower pitch feels and sounds more full. I also believe that I get a better sound projection. I also compare it regularily to my other three (my very first old Bach of fifty five years, a newer Bach and a Olds), and I can clearly sense the difference. Endurance is also gained. Great! You had suggested this mouthpiece for people who were having more fatigue as they age (my age is 75) and more difficulty reaching the high notes. Upon receiving the new piece I was very pleased that it felt pretty comfortable right away. I also had I bigger and darker sound on the piece which was desirable. My range is consistent with the Shilke but sound is richer. It has been about 3 weeks and I feel very happy with the comfort and sound. Title: Wedge 101G

I am enjoying my Wedge mouthpiece very much, but my experience seems a little different than some other reviewers'. Because I moved up to a slightly larger piece when I switched to the Wedge, I have not noticed an increase in range or a huge increase in stamina. However, what I like so much about this mouthpiece is that I was able to increase my cup diameter without LOSING range or endurance. I get the broader sound and flexibility benefits of a larger mouthpiece with the feel and control of a smaller one. Also, if you are reading this review right now, you are probably wondering the same thing I was when I first read reviews: how different does the Wedge feel and how long does it take to adjust? For me, the Wedge feels almost no different than the Hammond mouthpiece I was using before - it just feels like a regular, round mouthpiece. I've been using my new mouthpiece for just over three weeks now, and I'm very, very pleased. I was playing on a Bach 1.25C. Straight away I like the comfort of the Wedge, and felt I had better endurance and sound. Although I was happy playing on it pretty much straight off, I think it's taken me 2-3 weeks for it to feel natural on the chops, but I feel it's really settling in now;I think the Wedge design is helping me to use the corners much more effectively, and the upper register is starting to feel much more secure. A slight caveat is that, with coronavirus lockdown, I'm only playing it at home, so I won't really know how it sounds in a big space and with other people until that changes, whenever that might be! Overall though, I'm delighted and I think it's highly likely I will be ordering some additional tops and backbores in due course. Many thanks! -David J.K.

Title: Two piece flugelhorn mouthpiece works great!

Never having touched a flugelhorn before and certainly never having blown one, I asked Dave for a recommendation because the Shielke and Bach mouthpieces that came with new (used) flugelhorn just weren't working. Dave recommend the standard sized shank and the 66FLC top because the 66MDV trumpet mouthpiece works so well for me. I've never had a 2 piece mouthpiece before so I was a little leary of it, but now that I've got one, I love it! I see why Dave recommended the 2 piece; one can more easily and more cheaply switch between tops. Anyway, the 66FLC delivers the same big, deep and rich sound on the flugelhorn as the 66MDV does on the trumpet. I love the 66 size rim because it is wide and seems to float on my lips and not dig in causing fatigue. I use the mouthpiece horizontally because my face is so narrow. The 66FlC is deep so it takes a different approach than the trumpet, so this is going to take some getting used to. But the new Wedge mouthpiece does exactly what Dave represented. Thanks again Dave! -John T

Dr. Dave was very helpful over the phone with helping me select the appropriate Wedge model. He is easy to talk to and a good listener. He has a genuine interest in helping brass players improve their playing. If you're interested in trying a Wedge I definitely recommend calling Dr. Dave before you order,. As for the mouthpiece, it is definitely an improvement over the traditional round mouthpiece that I was playing before. Right away, I noticed a much more comfortable feel against the embouchure. After about 3 days, I began to experience improved flexibility, cleaner slotting of partials, better response and accuracy in the upper register, and increased endurance. Now, after playing the mouthpiece every day for about 2 1/2 weeks, all of the aforementioned benefits are still progressing, plus my articulations are more consistent and the tone is also improving. Dr. Dave said that after two or three weeks of playing the new mouthpiece, if I wasn't happy, to call him back, and he would address any issues I might be having, and recommend a different model Wedge to exchange for. But for now, I'll stay with his original selection, and continue to let my embouchure grow into it. -Jerry A

I just added a 66RT trumpet mouthpiece for lower range, jazz playing and very happy with this new purchase. I recently played it on my last 2 gigs and was thrilled with the response. I’m very appreciate of the time that Dr. Dave took to make the recommendation that I was inquiring about. Another happy trumpet player ! -Jim B

I have been playing the Bach 7E on my Picc since 1978. Frankly, though I’ve tried others, I always return to the Bach as it was the only one that “worked” for me. Until now. Title: Step up.

I’ve had my Wedge for a couple of weeks. There was initial improvement immediately in tone, hitting and holding pitch centers, high register tone, endurance and a step or so up the high register. Hitting pitches reliably was off some and I had some lip corner leaking. However, continued practice seems to be improving all of these. I’m using a regular mouthpiece on my flugel and I seem to have a better feel for that. I doubt I’ll go back to my regular trumpet mouthpiece. When my funds allow I may try one for my flugel. I think everyone should give the wedge a serious trial -William J K

Title: Wedge 64ES

I purchased the Wedge and immediately started practicing with it. Typically I practice an hour to an hour and a half everyday, missing no more than one day on rare occasions. The pros: - the mouthpiece feels very comfortable - my sound is a little fuller with the Wedge The cons: - I immediately lost about a third off my range and have not yet gained it back - my endurance is not as good with the Wedge I have used the mouthpiece exclusively, except for two days when I switched back and forth a few times during my practice session just to verify that I was not doing anything different and that my range was better with my Bobby Shew Lead mouthpiece... it was. Since my primary purpose for the purchase was for an increase in range and endurance, unless something changes pretty quickly, I'd have to say that this particular mouthpiece is not working as planned. -Lew L

Title: DHC mouthpiece

Sound quality notably improved for classical applications, but still undecided about improved range, while the shaping of the piece does address my slight under bite. I also feel that I still have to place my embouchure higher above center for most dependable sound. For range improvement I thought so at first but feels quite variable based on fatigue obviously. However I am taking the main advice from Dr Dave about nothing being better than practice, so I am putting a lot of time into studies and exercises to improve my technique and breath control before I decide about improved range. Title: Chuck Findlay 66S Wedge Mouthpiece Review

There’s a bit of a learning curve for the embouchure but nothing a few hours of serious practice didn’t handle. This mouthpiece replaces my Dennis Wick 3C “heavy top” which I have used exclusively for about 15 years playing lead in a big band and also first chair in a community philharmonic band. My low range is hampered by this mouthpiece but I don’t miss it cause I don’t go there much. I’m 68 now and am not too worried about restricting myself in that area. As for the top end I didn’t see much difference in upper range, but no surprise there. The Wick is awesome there for my lip. Where this Wedge shines is in increased stamina as well as ease of hitting the higher notes. It’s just easier. At my advanced age that is a godsend. As we age, muscle mass reduces, and the muscle in the lip appears not to be an exception. One of my strong suits as a player was always my stamina and I’ve noticed a slow but appreciable drop in that regard in the last ten years or so. The Wedge has put me back into my comfort zone. Thank you so much. Definitely worth the high end price...now if only you could do something like this for my eyes! -Jim M

Title: Great Backbore!!!!!

I bought this so I could have the "C" length and the regular weight mid section to mix and match with what I already had (Heavy weight Bb length). Love it! When changing out the middle you really notice a difference in slotting and timbre. Very excited to have these different timbre's at my disposal. Changing out the Bb length for the C length on my C trumpet I notice an immediate difference in the response, sound quality and resistance. I tried a bunch of C trumpets (probably around 11) with the C length vs the Bb length and each one responded a little differently. Oddly enough some slotted better for me with the Bb length, while some expectedly slotted better with the C length. Definitely worth buying because every person is different and every horn is different. -Jeff L

I figured I would check out the wedge, and my first purchase was the less expensive plastic "bach3c" model. I continue to use this as my daily practice mouthpiece. For fun, I decided to purchase the 65S. Definitely a strong "high-range" mp. Very comfortable to play, and the sound is remarkably good (though very definitely a shallow mp sound) even in lower ranges. I'll most likely be getting a wedge for my flugel as well as a metal wedge akin to the bach3c or similar. -George C

Title: Plastic .650 MV and a comeback player

I played trumpet back in high school in the 1970s. I was a pretty decent player and dedicated to practicing, but never played anything above C6 (and even that was an effort). Got back into playing a month ago, and have been scouring youtube for embouchure ideas. Anyway, I'm experimenting with some new (to me) ideas based on what makes sense to me, and figured as long as I'm starting over why not try a different mouthpiece? I was somewhat skeptical about the wedge, but I'm kind of a scienc-y and geeky guy so I thought "why not try it." I was a bit shocked by the sticker price, so I opted for the less expensive plastic one piece that the comparison chart said was closest to a bach 3c. While I've only been playing now for about 5 weeks, I will say I'm pretty happy with the Wedge. My range has extended a bit beyond my high school range --- perhaps partly due to a "reset" of my embouchure --- but if I switch back and forth between my regular 3c and the Wedge there is a definite difference --- the Wedge is provides a bit more comfort and security in the upper register. I did not opt for the tone ring offered with the plastic mouthpiece. In hindsight, I probably should have. However, I am happy enough (which means, pretty outstandingly happy) that I have ordered a second Wedge mouthpiece --- this time a metal one --- with a slightly different cup depth. (I'm pretty tight with a dime, so I'm pretty convinced that this is a good investment.). -George C

Title: Versatility defined.

First off, I'd like to say that Dr. Dave was very helpful in helping me to choose a mouthpiece. I've become a big fan of the Wedge design in general, having played multiple at this point. I've found it to be very comfortable, notably responsive in all registers, and the concave rim shape actually does a great job of exposing common flaws in upper register technique. Specifically, it prevents the player from using excessive back pressure as a crutch. Originally, I had bought a used Wedge pt-88, trying to get away from several issues I had with a Helleberg on a rotary BBb. Great mp, but far too large for my face. I've found the 30D to produce a nearly equivalent sound, with less effort, and less compromise in both the upper/lower registers. I'd have no problem using this mp any ensemble, from orchestra, to quintet. You won't be disappointed. -Ben S

Title: New Go-To Mouthpiece

I've been playing on my Wedge for 3 months and it's now my go-to piece. This mouthpiece is better than any other I've played on- it increased my range, endurance, improved my articulation and is very comfortable. (Not drastically, but noticeabley. This is not going to magically make you an amazing trumpet player) I played on a 1 1/2C for 10 years and every time I tried something new, it was not as good. This one was different. One advantage/disadvantage is the adjustment period. I found that I could instantaneously play better on the wedge and the curve of the mouthpiece didn't bother me at all. However, I found that you really have to have the corners engaged with this mouthpiece, so my endurance was actually weaker at first. After about a month of playing on it and figuring it out a little more, my endurance has increased. The biggest flaw would be positioning the mouthpiece where you want it when you play, but the advantages outweigh this issue for me. The last thing I would like to mention is Dr. Dave- he was extremely helpful, responsive to all my questions and helped me get the right size. It's an expensive mouthpiece, but if you do a lot of playing and are not happy with your current mouthpiece, try it! -Jonathan S

I'll start by saying that everything they say about this mouthpiece is true: it helps you developing a wider embouchure reducing the changes between registers, flexibility and articulation are both easier and the recovery from fatigue is faster. So I can say that the overall muscular structure is optimized for playing a brass instrument. The sound is much more focused and the core of each tone is more dense. Wedge mouthpieces are also really useful in case of both muscular and neural disorder (such as focal dystonia), so if you suffer one of these disease you should definitely consider buying one. -Francesco B

Title: Good mouthpiece

I have used the 103E euro shank for about 6 months. My normal mouthpiece has a 103 rim and DR. Dave recommended that I try the 102E. This was too small, I had a lot of trouble in the low register and no high range improvement. I exchanged for a 103E, which is better with regard to the low range, but no real improvement in high range or flexibility as compared with my usual mouthpiece. The fit and finish of the mouthpiece is high quality. But, compared to almost every other mouthpiece that i have, the thickness of the end of the shank is greater. Some people believe that the this thickness should be minimized to achieve a smoother transition from shank to receiver. Not sure how much difference this makes, but just be aware. Also, I would definitely recommend staying at at least the same size as your conventional rim. The horizontal axis of the mouthpiece is smaller than the nominal rim measurement. So, if you order a 103, the axis of the rim that goes along your lip aperture is smaller than 103. Another issue that I have is the rim contour. For me, it is quite sharp and fairly uncomfortable. I wish that various rim contours were offered. The cup depth is between an SM4 Ultra and and SM4X. The throat and backbore are quite large, so the sound lacks a bit or core, but has a pleasant "pillowy" quality. Looking back, I wish i had returned this during the return period. I did not receive any significant improvements in range or endurance. For me, any advantage of the mouthpiece did not justify the shortcomings and the high price. -Mike

Title: Gave me Three Notes

WOW! I have been blown away. First was the excellent customer service. Dr. Dave took the time to make sure I had the right mouthpiece. Second, I was impressed with the island operation. Great production setting. And third (most importantly), this new mouthpiece has given me more than I had hoped for. On day number one I could easily reach 3 notes higher up the register. After two weeks I was comfortably playing in my historical upper ranges. Notes that used to be a challenge for me to reach now come with ease. I've also had quite a few compliments on my improved tone. I cannot recommend Dave's mouthpieces strongly enough. Every brass player needs this. -Bob L

Title: Son's endurance has increased

My 12-year old son with a severe overbite got the 10-degree wedge mouthpiece. He is holding his trumpet more in line with his peers, and has increased his endurance while playing. He was randomly selected for County Band and had a six-hour practice day, which was far greater in length than any practicing he had done before. He complained that night that his teeth felt loose (I confirmed for him that they weren't) but that his lips were comfortable. His major complaint was a minor chapping. He was able to play the concert the following day with confidence and with a great sound. He has said several times that it is much more comfortable to play on the wedge than on either his Bach 3C or 7C mouthpieces. I think that I made the right choice for him. -Jamie B

Title: Delrin vs Standard 5GS Trombone Mouthpiece

I wanted to buy a spare mouthpiece to use with the horn that I keep in my office. When I saw that Dr. Dave had a discounted Delrin 5GS, I thought I'd give it a try since it would give me the same dimensions as my standard Wedge 5GS at a great price. I especially like the physical warmth of the rim. I can start playing immediately. The sound is somewhat different, but that's what I had expected given the significant difference in the mass of the two mouthpieces. Overall, I'm satisfied with the Delrin version and I would recommend it as a backup for anyone who wants a second Wedge at a great price. -Joel S

Title: 62LV and 62S Gen II Tops

I have been using Wedge MPs for a long time. Years ago Dave made me a custom rim that we called a 6-13 DCG. I had it in med shallow, medium, and med deep cups. Recently I was trying to tweak my endurance a bit and wanted to try a slightly smaller and/or shallower cup but using the Gen II rim. Dave looked good the old drawings and said a 64 Gen II rim was closest to what I had been using so he sent me a 64 LV. It was too shallow for me. I then tried the LV cup on my old 6-13 rim and the cup was still too shallow for me. However, I gave it to a friend who loves it and it has become his lead MP. Next I tried a 62 LV on the Gen II and it was still to shallow for me even in the smaller size. I then called Dave and he said try the 62S on the Gen II. It is perfect! I just have too much lip intrusion to use ES and LV cups, but the 62S worked well. I don't bottom out even after playing a couple hours, my sound is full and I can get above DHC on it. My articulations are clean as well. The that end I have just ordered med and med deep cups to go along with the shallow on this 62 Gen II rim. These are in acrylic and have #25 throats. I will keep using the 62S with a Warburton KT* backbore, and will use the deeper cups with whatever backbore works best. I will use the deepest cup on my C trumpet and the med cup on my picc. I may also use them on my Bb when I am not playing lead. -Blaine P

Title: Increased endurance, feels good, but...

Overall, I can go to this mouthpiece when I've worn myself out with one of my others. I like the warm feeling of the plastic when I start playing and it is essential when I'm playing Taps outside when it is cold (I don't stick to the mouthpiece like with metal). I do find there is some loss of brightness in my tone when I plan and the extra stickiness gets annoying at times and can limit my use for a long playing session. My plan is to get an metal top and compare that to the other mouthpieces I have; sort of a more "apples to apples" comparison. -Eric S

Title: 67 MDV - what a sweet sound

The 67 MDV is the mouthpiece that I acquired most recently. I have to admit that, after the instant acclimatisation to the other four pieces (MV, MD, RT, and FL), it took me much longer to find the right feel and blow on the MDV. I don't really know why, and I could only venture a guess, but I think it just had to do with its particular cup depth that I was having some difficulty adjusting to. So, after almost sending it back, I thought that maybe I just need to give some more, and exclusive, playing time. That did it! Without switching back and forth between mouthpieces I was able to get used to it and find its air & sound center. I love the rich, sweet sound it produces, and I now play principally on that piece, so I'm really glad I found the patience to stick with it! I hope relating this experience will be helpful to others who are new to the Wedge products. They are fantastic! -Michael A

Title: I tried the Chuck Findley model

I found the rim to be more comfortable than the Bach 3C rim I am accustomed to playing. The cup however on the 66M seemed a bit shallow, even though I could play it fairly well. But I am not accustomed to playing shallow cups so I felt no immediate benefit from the mouthpiece in range or volume of sound. My tone was actually a little warmer and less edgey on the 66M. I felt this was because I felt my chops were not vibrating as freely because of the shallow cup. I would recommend it for someone who normally plays a shallower cup because the rim is more comfortable than standard rims. I intend to try another Wedge model that has a slightly deeper, thanks to the helpful return/ exchange policy they have at Wedge. -Joseph M.

I am a 55 year old community band player and have been playing the 66MV for about 6 weeks - replacing the Yamaha Bobby Shew Jazz I had been playing for several years. I can say with confidence that I have experienced improved range and stamina with the 66MV. I am glad that this mouthpiece is helping me to reduce the effects of Father Time which is giving me the confidence to continue my solo work around town. As a result of this experience, I have also ordered Wedge mouthpieces for my picc and flugelhorn. Mark- J

As a retired HS band director I had some initial skepticism and when I received the acrylic H2 tuba mouthpiece I thought...that's it? Upon putting it to the test I found that notes slot much easier and that I could still maintain a big sound. I play in a community concert band and several of the band director/members noticed that I had a bigger sound with the "blue plastic"mouthpiece. Bravo on making a great tuba mouthpiece that makes this old tubist sound a little less "old guy"! Also, thanks for having a 90 day return policy as I would not have tried it without it. -Ken N

I recently took over playing lead in a big band and I was struggling with range and endurance. After discussing with Dr. Dave, I purchased a 665MDV single piece mouthpiece, which, is a little large for playing lead but somewhat smaller than my previous setup. I immediately noticed all of the advertised benefits. My range, although it only improved slightly, was more solid, the notes slot better, my endurance improved immensely and the overall sound improved. In a blind test, I asked my wife which mouthpiece sounded better, without hesitation, she immediately picked the wedge. Thanks Dr. Dave, I will be back for more for other instruments. -Ian B

Title: 67MV - Great medium sized piece!!

This was the first Wedge that I ordered last March after many weeks of examining the website and communicating extensively with Dr. Dave. His exhaustive advice and constant availability are unique in the entire music business, and he guided me to my initial purchase. Since then I've purchased several other excellent mouthpieces for flugelhorn, piston trumpet, and rotary trumpet. What really struck me immediately about the 67MV was its richness of tone and ease of response. I would describe it as a medium-small cup (for me at least) and I found the depth to be similar to a Yamaha or Schilke B cup or a Bach 3C. Being (subjectively, of course) on the bright side of the timbre scale, I knew right away that an MD cup would probably become my standard piece, and in fact that's the way it has turned out. Will I send this piece back? Absolutely not!! It's great for work that requires a more (slightly more) cutting edge in the sound and greater projection, like pop/rock music or a high but non-lead big band part. However, it can also be used for symphonic work where an inherently dark sound is not vitally necessary. What was so amazing about this mouthpiece is that once I started playing it I never went back to my conventional mouthpieces, which btw are excellent. I played in a symphonic film-score concert just four days after it arrived! Dr. Dave described this situation as me being a "Wedge Responder", and I can only confirm that this is so. I am also extremely satisfied with the 67MD, 67RT, and 67FL that I own and reviewed at the beginning of August of this year (if anyone might be interested in reading those reviews). I repeat what I've already written in my reviews and on the Wedge FB page, that in my experience everything that is claimed on the Wedge website is true. And this is because behind the design, development, and subsequent evolution of Wedge mouthpieces is science, medical knowledge, and research. These mouthpieces are unique, and they work beautifully for me. AND, they've breathed new enthusiasm into my life of music making! -Michael A.

Title: My New Main Mouthpiece

After playing my Yamaha YTR6310Z trumpet with the 66MV wedge mouthpiece for 3 weeks, including 3 public performances, I can say the transition is finalized. My main playing genre is jazz, including improvised solos, in combo and big band ensembles. Been playing trumpet over 60 years now and have not won any high note awards yet. Try to play an hour or so each day, but lapses do occur. Therefore, good enough endurance to get thru the gig is always an issue. The wedge mouthpiece has helped a little to improve endurance. Also makes C to D above the staff a little more attainable in active playing situations. It is more comfortable. Attack precision and flexibility are good. Tone is also good to my ear – maybe a little brighter than with the Yamaha 14B4. None of my listeners have asked if something is wrong or am I feeling OK – this is a good sign. Making sure the dots are properly vertically aligned takes some getting used to. I find myself checking each time I begin playing; the mouthpiece does not work well if the dots aren’t vertical. It is also not a magic mouthpiece. Improvements, in my experience, are marginal, but every little bit of improvement is gladly appreciated. So, bottom line: the wedge mouthpiece is working for me, and I plan to order one for my flugelhorn and maybe another trumpet one for emergency lead situations soon. -James Roger V.

Title: Warning: One might not be enough

Endurance and high range on my trombones were areas I wanted to improve. At 70 years old, muscle building is slow and limited. After reading about the Wedge, I bought one for my main axe, a Conn 88 HCL - medium/large bore with a large shank mouthpiece.. I noticed an immediate improvement in endurance, and suspected my Gs were coming a little easier. After several weeks, I was positive my endurance and range were both improving. So I ordered one for my small bore Conn 6H secondary bone and another for the scrappy Yamaha 4-valve euphonium I am beginning to fool around with. I figured I needed the help there too. Now, a couple months later, As, perhaps even B-flats are where my Gs used to be in accessability ... and I'm moving up bit by bit from there. Endurance is definitely improved. Perhaps I am doing something else differently, but I doubt it. I am giving credit to the Wedge mouthpieces, and am very grateful for their expert help in selecting the models that fit my three different situations. -Ted D.

As stated in my 5/26/19 review of the 66MDV trumpet mouthpiece, I bought a second one for my new Getzen silver elite bugle. I bugle for the American Legion Honor Guard and Bugles Across America. Wow, the 66MDV opened up the sound of the bugle to a big big voice! A bugle already is loud compared to a trumpet, but the 66MDV added a fullness and boldness to the sound. Overall, the sound is fuller and deeper than the Schilke Symphony M5C or Bach 7C that I had been using. Range is every bit as good and the high register stays full and rich too. Fellow buglers have commented on how good the sound is, mostly commenting on how full and open the sound is. The high notes and crescendo’s sound strong too. I am as pleased with the 66MDV on the bugle as I am on the trumpet. Once you hear the sound of this mouthpiece, the price becomes insignificant. Totally happy. -John T.

I bought this mouthpiece to help me get a little more range on the piccolo (I only can get to a high F and pretty squeeky at that using my 65S with aggressive shallow backbore). Honestly, the ES ended up being too shallow for me, I would lose the buzz after 5 minutes....I'm sure it was an issue with my embouchure. Guess you need to have better chops than mine to use this type of mouthpiece. But the best part about working with Wedge is instead of having an orphan mouthpiece in a drawer was that I was given substantial credit towards another less shallow piece. Playing both trombone, sackbut and euphonium is a challenge to find a euphonium mouthpiece supporting intonation, range and sound. I have tried many mouthpieces and finally I got this. It is a mouthpiece that really gives me good confidence in the upper register, it is comfortable to play on and the rim grip really fits me. What I have really not got used to is the sound that is more compact then playing on Denis Wick SM mouthpieces, but since I am not a brass band player but playing in wind and symphony orchestras this is not a big problem, for outdoor playing it is even a feature. The mouthpiece also gives you freedom to alter your playing and adapt it is just a matter of practicing and with the extended endurance that this mouthpiece gives it just makes it fun. I am playing on a Adams euphonium but also on a vintage Boosey & Hawkes Imperial, next step for me is to order the same mouthpiece but with medium sized shank. -M Frisk

75M French Horn One Piece Mouthpiece - Acrylic - American Shank (2019-09-06)

5 star review

Title: 75M French Horn One Piece Mouthpiece - Acrylic - American Shank

I purchased this mouthpiece recently and have practiced/rehearsed with it for about 3 weeks. My reason for buying it was that I may have developed an allergy to nickel/silver. The mouthpiece is comfortable for me (I have a relatively thin upper lip). I did not notice much difference between this mouthpiece (also used the tone modifier) and my silver Schilke 29 (the Schilke box says silver but most likely it is nickel-silver). I will be returning the Wedge mouthpiece, however, because I did not know when I bought it that the mouthpiece has to be placed in a particular way on the instrument and lips because of its unique rim which is supposed to produce its advantages. The package I received had a note attached stating to line up 2 white dots on the rim at the top and bottom of the instrument; I could see only one, and that was difficult with the translucent plastic due to reflection from light off the plastic. When I contacted Harrison mouthpieces I was told that on French horn mouthpieces there is only ONE white dot. But in order to line that up as recommended, I would have to hold my instrument at exactly the same angle every time. I can see where this might be relatively easy to do with a trumpet or trombone, but with French horn (which I hold at an angle resting the bell on my leg or occasionally lifting it upward to play loud passages, and which angle I must often change to read and/or turn pages of music)---in real-time performance requiring these changes, there is no time to check to see if the mouthpiece is correctly placed or to turn the mouthpiece to accommodate shifting positions. So I don't recommend this mouthpiece for most French horn players. I do think there should be something on the website that explains why the mouthpiece placement is important; had I known that I would not have ordered it. Except for that problem, which I think would affect many French horn players, I would say that the ordering experience (and, hopefully, the return) was very good. The information on the website was extensive, allowing me to narrow my choices, and the phone conversation I had with Dr. Dave was very helpful. I just think the website information for French horn players should be modified to explain the "white dot" requirement, and the mouthpiece design should be tested by some French horn players to see if it really works for most players. Possibly it would work for a player who memorizes solos or who stands up while performing and takes the weight of the horn on the right hand always holding the instrument at the same angle. -Jean D.

Dave's Response:

Hi Jean,

I am sorry you were not aware of the shape of the rim when you made your purchase. We do provide details about the rim and specific playing instructions on a few different pages on the website and store, but I am guessing you missed them.

https://store.wedgemouthpiece.com/playing-instructions/

https://store.wedgemouthpiece.com/how-the-wedge-works/

There is a bit of a learning curve when it comes to orienting the mouthpiece in the receiver. Most horn players are able to adapt to it quite well, but I understand if it did not work out for you. I do suggest making a mark with a sharpie on the mouthpiece and on the leadpipe so that you can insert the mouthpiece the same each time. That at least makes it possible to insert the mouthpiece quickly and easily in a consistent orientation.

I will make sure that Daniel sends return instructions if he has not already done so.

Cheers, Dave

Title: 775D Review

I find it very hard to rate this product, as I personally haven't seen improvements in my playing, but in fact, it's quite the opposite. I may have a mouthpiece that just does not work well for me, but I do believe there is some good things to be said about this product. It is very well made, being a one piece, the rim, cup, and shank all flow together seamlessly, and the cup not being completely round, but oval, is very innovative. I can tell a lot of design and thought has been put into this mouthpiece, and I don't want my review to detract from this, since I know it works wonders for many of the professional players i work with regularly. Overall, I think this mouthpiece is very high quality, but you really have to get the perfect mouthpiece for you, which I have not yet, or a traditional style mouthpiece may just be what I need, but regardless of what works for me, I give this mouthpiece a high review for the high quality it represents. -Cole S.

67RT One Piece Trumpet Mouthpiece (2019-08-01)

5 star review

Title: 67RT - the best rotary trumpet mouthpiece I've ever played!!

I'm actually reviewing first the Wedge mouthpiece that I have spent the least amount of time on, but it doesn't matter at all. ALL of the Wedges that I've bought have been instant successes, with immediate positive results. I can confirm that every claim made on the Wedge website, about how these mouthpieces will improve performance, is true. I won't get into why it works, everything is exhaustively explained on the website. I guess I'm what Dr. Dave Harrison calls a "Wedge responder", or one that takes to the new equipment right away. Infact, I played a concert on a new 67MV four days after it arrived. So, the 67RT. What a beautiful sound, easy response, and efficiency on the rotary instrument. The cup depth is deep but not too deep, somewhere between a Breslmair G2 and G3, but closer to the G2. It's quite v-shaped, and it matches perfectly with the smaller bore of the typical german/austrian type of trumpet. Because of this deep cup/small bore combination, the upper range is not at all difficult to produce, and the sound is full and rich in all registers. It's a joy to play on! The Wedge was up against some very stiff competition from some other fine mouthpiece makers, but it's on the horn at every playing now. Everything else is in my mouthpiece cemetary! -Michael A.

It really does make playing easier and more efficient. Again, the change to the new equipment was of the "never look back" kind. Fantastic products. -Michael A.

Title: Great general use mouthpiece!

I'm pretty sure that the 67MD is going to be my general use mouthpiece. My first Wedge was a 67MV, which I purchased after a lengthy period of reading/studying everything I could about them and an extended, informative and guiding email conversation with Dr. Dave Harrison. No one else in this business dedicates that much time and energy with clients for such extended periods. The MD cup has a beautiful, warm but focused sound. As with all Wedges, it has a special singing quality that's so easy to produce. The combination of pressure transfer, the lateral dip, and the oval shaped cups seems to produce this. I also really like the MV for when a brighter sound is appropriate but a lead mouthpiece isn't necessary. As I mentioned in another review, I've found all claims made on the website to be true! I can also use the MD on my rotary trumpet, and the difference in sound with respect to the RT is much less than one might expect. I've found the Wedge rim design to be, in my opinion, the most important advance in brass instrument technology since the invention of valves two hundred years ago. It is truly revolutionary, and has made me a very happy brass player with newly found enthusiasm for music making! -Michael A.

Title: 101G Trombone Mouthpiece - happy with the change

I play a Conn 88 in a summer-only community band. Though I try to keep my embouchure up fall through spring, I never quite have enough range nor nearly enough lip endurance. From written reviews I figured it was worth a try... the guarantee adds confidence to that decision. No hype. The Wedge is noticeably better for stamina and I think I'm hearing a brighter sound. One catch: It was like giving a 5K runner instant 10K endurance. I quite literally blistered my upper lip by going on too long, too soon. That cost me 10 days mandatory rest. I have to build up a bit more gradually. I started over on Tuesday practice for Thursday's concert. It really was nice to play the whole concert without my lip shutting down in the last 1/3rd. Other than inability to hold the last 3 Fs in the last song, I made it through without compromise. -Ted D.

The ML C-length shank was my go-to piece for my Yamaha D/Eb, and now it becomes THE piece for the C rotary. RE:64MV Trumpet Top and 2 Piece Backbore (2019-06-27)

My history with Wedge is at least 6 years.

I had not played a trumpet in more than 20 years, but picked up my horn on a lark and got hooked again in about 2013. . . wanted to switch to cornet for a mellower sound, but had no cornet mouthpieces; tried about a hundred from a friend in town, but also researched online through Internet Searches, saw the Wedge mentioned, checked you out, was impressed by the intentional medical thought that went into the design, so tried a Wedge cornet mouthpiece.  I’m a pharmacologist, after all, so things like blood flow, innervation of musculature, etc., mean something to me.

I was not a “responder” but was persistent, and after a few weeks, decided the Wedge merited a long-term trial.

After a few months playing exclusively on the Wedge, I could still play on conventional Bach mouthpieces, but I disliked like the restrictive feel.  I’ve never looked back; I use Wedges exclusively; had a full complement of cornet and trumpet mouthpieces in Bach 3 (66) rim size, but recently (6 or 8 months ago) downsized to a 64 rim size and sold my quiver of B3/66 mouthpieces to a friend . . . now he and his wife, both trumpeters, are Wedge devotees.

I’ve bought all my horns second hand; if you check my order history, I think you’ll see why I’m likely correct when I say I’ve spent as much on Wedge mouthpieces as on horns . . . because it’s true . . . the mouthpiece(s) are more important than the resonating chamber.

Because I switched to the Wedge during my re-introduction to trumpet/cornet playing, it is tough for me to say that the Wedge improved my sound, range, endurance, etc., but there is something I can absolutely attest to, and I think it makes perfect sense in light of the design of the Wedge rim.  No matter how long I practice or perform on any give day, and regardless of how fatigued I may become, my chops are NEVER sore, ever.  That was definitely NOT the case when I played on conventional mouthpieces, regardless of rim design or cup depth.  If I over-did it, I paid the price the next day or so in sore chops.  Since switching to Wedges, I may be tired the day following a day of excessive playing, but the chops are NEVER sore.  That’s huge . . . that means I’m exercising the muscles without injury.  I’m not restricting blood flow to the embouchure or pinching nerves.  My endurance increases linearly with my practice schedule and I never have to rest to repair an injury.  I may need to practice lightly some days to give myself some rest, but I NEVER need to lay off to let sore chops heal.

Best regards,
Chris

I ordered the size mouthpiece in accordance with the chart on the website. I received the mouthpiece in a timely manner. It was nicely packaged and well made. It fit comfortably on my embouchure and I worked diligently with it for four consecutive days. It neither added nor took away from my endurance and made it more difficult to play in the lower register. With that being said, I have friends whose opinions I respect that have had better results using their Wedge Mouthpieces. It is a very well thought out concept and well worth trying. The return policy is more than reasonable.

It’s funny every horn player is his own worst critic but with this mouth bass I noticed immediately the power that it put out with the least amount of effort my son came to visit and he used to play trumpet when he was very young and can still play the C scale he put my old Shilkie 14a4a in my Bach Stradivarius and attempted the scale his tone and quality was what I expected and was very weak and then he put the wedge mouthpiece into it and this enormous sound came out again it’s funny that I could immediately hear it in another person Who never plays trumpet it is truly a remarkable mouthpiece

After 10 years without playing my horn, an opportunity came along to entice me back. Just then, Dr. Dave’s posts about the “Wedge” appeared. With the recommendation of a long-time (neither of us is old) friend, Prof. Berinbaum at UBC, I decided to give it a try. I also found a good teacher and am amazed at how quickly my “chops” are returning. It is not a substitute for practicing but it is no spendy “Dumbo’s Feather”, either. While others in the section are complaining about fatigue & discomfort after a long rehearsal or concert, I am relatively comfortable. After 6 weeks, my range has grown faster than I expected. Thank you, Dr. Dave for helping me to find the right one to get.

I bought my mouthpiece because I struggled with stamina during gigs. I constantly had to wipe off my old mouthpiece and had trouble losing seal out the side of my mouth. First I noticed is my seal problem is fixed and my lips hold in the wedge design. Also, as an added benefit, I felt I always had to tip my head back to play to keep horn up which Dave suggested I try a 5 degree angle. My horn feels much more comfortable to stand and play now. Lastly, I recently tried my old mouthpiece on a challenging song, after my lips felt gassed I put the wedge design back in my horn and was able to play it easily through 2 more times!! I love it. Give it a try!!

The Wedge 65ES Delivers The Goods….
This my first Wedge mpc experience, and everything touted on the website, I experienced. My endurance has increased, not only while practicing, but also during performance. My flexibility has increased as evidenced by running through numerous Arban and Hering etudes with more accuracy than ever before. The comfort of the unique Wedge rim allowed increased response, especially at soft volume levels. The sound I hear behind the bell seems to have more core, and my high end notes lock in more securely and feel extremely solid when playing them. I can’t recommend the Wedge mouthpiece enough!

Extremely comfortable mouthpiece 66MDV
This mouthpiece is exactly what I was looking for. I was lucky to find it in Dr. Dave’s “scratch and dent” section (although I’m hard-pressed to find a single scratch or dent), but I would have happily paid full price. I’ve been going back and forth between a more conventional mouthpiece and a Wedge 66M in plastic, but the plastic was too grippy for my tastes. Switching to the slightly deeper cup and the more comfortable silver plate made this mouthpiece feel like a perfect match right away, and it’s only feeling more comfortable by the minute.

XT 104 Trombone Screw Rim
As soon as I put this rim on my lips I sensed a noticeable improvement. My sound was more full with more core. Overall it feels easier to get around the horn. Range is improved both low and high. At times I was using larger 105 and 106 rims in the past in order to play the low range more easily, but with the way the Wedge rim is curved to fit my face I can use a smaller rim down low, which also improves my endurance and high register. I noticed that my articulation became cleaner with less clammed notes too! I can safely say that I won’t be going back to my old mouthpieces. The Wedge is here to stay!

I have a couple other Wedge mouthpieces, on my large bore horns and wanted the same Wedge feel in a shallow cup to use on Eb/D, F/G, and Piccolo. Next I want to try an ES cup and also explore a very deep cup for a more orchestral sound on a C trumpet….great mouthpieces and Dave is very patient about answering questions.

Great piece!
I find the 102E to be the best match for my vintage Sovereign euphonium. Dr. Dave suggested I try a slightly smaller inner diameter than I would normally play based on my own evaluation of my playing. With the Wedge rim I get the clarity and fantastic flexibility of a smaller mouthpiece, with the extra room and bigger sound provided by the oval shape. There was a bit of an acclimation period for me, but it was worth the wait. Wedge mouthpieces are different, and worth a try in my book!

67MD – Biggest innovation in mouthpieces in my lifetime!
I purchased a Wedge mouthpiece based on a roundup review of the top mp’s currently on the market and in hindsight that review did not fully highlight the virtues of the Wedge so I will endeavor to correct that now. I performed a “blind” A/B/C test with my 2 go-to mp’s (A Schilke 15 and Bach 1C) and the new Wedge 67MD, my go-to horn (YTR-8335) and a single piece of music. After playing all three mp’s randomly for 20 minutes, my listener preferred the Wedge each and every time. We both noticed that the Wedge had more tonal richness and robustness, that my interval accuracy was superior, and I fewer cracked notes on attack. And the ergonomic comfort of the oval cup was a major surprise! The only downside was that my range was off by about a full two tones but that appears to be due to the throat not being as large as my A & B mps so I’m waiting on a new Wedge with a throat that matches my air stream needs. I thank Dr. Dave and his company for accommodating my request for an exchange and him taking the time to answer my numerous questions. I highly recommend the Wedge and Harrison Mouthpieces Inc. for their outstanding products and customer service.

I’ve been searching for a comfortable small-bore trombone mouthpiece for the past year. After getting my first Wedge mouthpiece for my large bore (4.5g) and loving it, I decided to try one for small bore. I contacted Dr. Dave and he helped me pick what turned out to be the perfect mouthpiece for me. I am beyond satisfied. One thing that particularly impressed me was its versatility. I can quite easily manipulate the sound to play anything from lead, to commercial, and even certain orchestral parts. I will certainly be purchasing more from Wedge in the future.

65S – Amazing lead piece!
This acrylic top pairs perfectly with a stainless steel heavy back bore that I use for pops, lead and jazz work. The stainless steel gives it an added unique sound characteristic added to sound over brass and paired with the acrylic offers clean attacks and allows you to play soft with a warm tone. If you are looking for something different to add to your options in your playing, I recommend this set up!

Great for my needs
This mouthpiece is perfect for my needs. The acrylic adds to the softness and “mellowness” of the tone. it’s not as deep as say a yamaha 14F4 or something that one would ususually play on a flugelhorn to achieve the wide open tone, but because of the acrylic it makes up for it. With the wedge mouthpieces i can cheat and slightly open the sides of my embouchure to add a bit of “whisper” tone to my flugelhorn which is super cool. This mouthpiece is my 4th, and i don’t plan on stopping. every one has it’s own character and i love playing around with combinations of mouthpieces, mouthpiece materials and horns. WILL BUY MORE!!! I LOVE THESE THINGS!!!

Very good indeed, with just the right resistance My tone higher up has improved, so I’m more than satisfied. Over the last two years I’ve built up a number of combinations of cups, back bores and stems which have proved very successfull over a number of instruments I use. I have particularly ‘got-on’ with the Wedge.

Better sound, and no loss of endurance or range!
I played a bach 3c with a bach strad for 20 years in various settings. A few years back I switched to a wedge B3C because a friend recommended it, but I seemed to have some tuning challenges in the upper register. I have also started to play in a jazz band and have some lead parts, so I contacted Dave to discuss some solutions. Dave recommended that I play a 66MD with a heavy weight backbore and standard shank in more legit settings. He thought that would improve my tuning and slotting in the upper register without causing me to lose range or endurance. Frankly, I have been very pleasantly surprised with the performance of this setup. I have better flexibility, better tuning in the upper register, and no loss of range of endurance. I also bought a 66FLC for my yamaha flugel and I have had similar results. I have good control of pitch and tone colour into the upper register, and since the setup is very similar to my wedge trumpet setup, it is very easy to switch instruments during shows. I could go on, but I think it is better to sum it by saying that if you have mouthpiece questions or concerns, talk to Dave. His advice is excellent, as are his mouthpieces. Thanks Dave, your mouthpieces are helping me to play to my full potential.

Very Impressed
I recently bought a 6 1/2 jazz trombone large shank and it is just what I needed. I have several Wedge mouthpieces for both small and large bore instruments and this mouthpiece possesses the typical Wedge traits of excellent production and clean articulation throughout the range. The sound is fairly bright as you’d expect but I find I can also use it in settings where a more mellow tone is required. Very good.

-Mario C
